おうし座は冬の星座の代表格で、赤く輝くアルデバラン（0.87等、K5 III型橙色巨星）が牡牛の赤い目として輝いています。V字型に並ぶヒアデス星団が牡牛の顔を形作り、その肩の上にはプレアデス星団（すばる、M45）が青白く輝いています。
アルデバランは地球から約65光年の距離にあり、ヒアデス星団（約150光年）の手前にたまたま重なって見えています。角の先にはエルナト（β星）が位置し、ぎょしゃ座との境界を成しています。
冬の夜、オリオンの三つ星を右上に延長すると、赤い星アルデバランに行き当たります。そのさらに先にはプレアデス星団（すばる）が肉眼で小さな星の集まりとして見えます。V字型のヒアデス星団はアルデバランを含む牡牛の顔として識別できます。
ギリシャ神話では、大神ゼウスが白い牡牛に変身し、フェニキアの王女エウロペを背に乗せて海を渡った姿とされています。「ヨーロッパ」の語源はこのエウロペに由来するとされます。プレアデス星団は、アトラスの7人の娘たちが天に上げられた姿と伝えられています。
おうし座はゲーム内で9番目に登場する星座で、4つのステージで構成されています。アルデバランから始まり、ペクトゥス、ティアングアン、エルナトの順に進行します。
角の先端に向かうにつれ難易度が上がり、隕石の密度も高くなります。
Taurus is a hallmark winter constellation, with the red-orange giant Aldebaran (mag 0.87, K5 III) gleaming as the bull's fiery eye. The V-shaped Hyades cluster forms the bull's face, and the Pleiades (Subaru, M45) sparkle on its shoulder.
Aldebaran lies about 65 light-years away, coincidentally aligned in front of the more distant Hyades cluster (~150 ly). Elnath marks the tip of the northern horn, shared with the border of Auriga.
On winter evenings, extend Orion's belt line up and to the right to reach the red star Aldebaran. Beyond it, the Pleiades appear as a tiny cluster to the naked eye. The V-shaped Hyades, with Aldebaran at one end, outlines the bull's face.
In Greek mythology, Zeus transformed into a magnificent white bull to carry the Phoenician princess Europa across the sea. The name "Europe" is said to derive from Europa. The Pleiades are traditionally identified as the seven daughters of Atlas placed among the stars.
